The guest speaker for the Freedom Memorial Day ceremony held May 24 at St. Nicholas Cemetery was Retired Col. Martin Seifer. Behind him are Jim VandenHeuvel, Bill VandeWettering and Dennis Techlin, seated.

The annual Freedom Walk to Remember was held Sept. 14 starting with a ceremony at Citizens Park in Freedom. The walk began as a memorial for the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks on the Pentagon and Twin Towers of the U.S. Trade Center.
Freedom Fest was held on Hwy E in downtown Freedom on Aug. 24 with the band "Half Empty" being the main performance that evening.
